BLACKSBURG NEWCOMERS' CLUB
Building Friendships & Community for all NRV
GENERAL MEETINGS & INTEREST GROUPS
Our next general membership meeting will be on September 14th at 9:00am. We'd love for you to become a member! We meet in the community room of the Luther Memorial Lutheran Church at 600 Prices Fork Road, Blacksburg. All general membership meetings are free and open to the public. Due to COVID restrictions, no food or drinks will be offered. The Church requires that everyone wear a mask while inside its building.
During the COVID pandemic the club has been following VA State COVID health directives and CDC guidelines. With the rescinding of COVID restrictions by the State, our interest groups have begun to meet again in person with some groups meeting via Zoom and some groups doing both (hybrid). For meetings held in private homes, while we want to be welcoming to all our members and are following State and CDC Covid guidelines, hosts have the right to set their own rules when hosting inside or outside of their homes (including rules regarding masks and vaccinations, just as they have the right to limit the number of guests, etc).
Please visit the Virginia Department of Health website here for updated COVID information.
Stay Safe, Stay Kind.
Making Friends and Becoming Part of a Community
Since the 1960s, people who have made the New River Valley their home have found the transition made easier by joining the Blacksburg Newcomers' Club. We welcome residents of any age, gender, nationality, race, or religion.
Club members meet monthly for a general meeting, which includes social time and a fun, informative program. Members participate in smaller interest group activities such as wine tasting, supper circles, book clubs and more.
As a member, you will receive a monthly newsletter that includes general meeting, activities, and Interest Group information. This information can also be found on this website.
Our Interest Groups offer opportunities to meet others and share hobbies and leisure activities. Interest Groups include: Book Clubs, Lunch Bunch, Evening Movie Group, Ladies Dinner & Drinks, Monday Mah Jongg, Drafted, Circle Supper Club, Wine Tasting, Brunch Group, Papercrafting, Needleworks, Happy Hikers, Wednesday Walkers and Gadabouts! If you don't see a group with your interests, we'll help you get one started.
Each monthly meeting features a speaker from a local Community Service Organization and members may bring needed items as well. We have participated in a "Reverse Advent" challenge to support the food pantry, our book clubs have collected books for the Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Program's Christmas Store, we have held a silent auction to benefit Micah's Closet and we make an annual year-end donation to a local charity.
Social events are also planned in the evenings for all members and their partners. Past events have included Chili Cook Offs, Mix n' Mingles, Holiday Brunch, Kentucky Derby socials, and Year End May Socials.
